Review: Bound by Duty by Cory Reilly

2.5 stars! ***

Author: Cora Reilly

Title: Bound by Duty (Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles, #2)

This novel was a bit (a lot) weaker than the previous one - Bound by Honor. It was slower and there was a lot less action and adventure.

Dante, who lost his first wife due to cancer, now has to get married again. As a capo he needs a wife and he choses Valentine, who lost her husband in a shooting.

Their relationship progresses really slowly. He doesn't sleep with her on their wedding night and Valentine is really dissapointed, because she REALLY wanted to get rid of her virginity.

As it turns out her husband Antonio was gay and couldn't get it up, therefore she's still virgin. Third of the book is dedicated to her trying to seduce Dante and failing. She gets annoying with her: "am i not attractive enough?" "why doesn't he want me?" "i'll quit trying *couple of minutes later* just let me take this see-through neglige". She repeats it time after time after time.

Thank god, he finally has sex with her. Not that it helps, because Valentine is still not satisfied. If my husband had a shrine of his ex, I would't be either, but she takes it on a whole another level.

They barely talked and she already loves him? Couple pages later.. SPOILER: BAM. She's pregnant. BAM. Antonio is alive. BAM. Antonio is dead.

The ending was really unsatisfactory. We've seen basically no changes in characters, no progress, not even teeny tiny change. Well, okay. Dante became less distant and cold, but that's pretty much all.

Valentina was stubborn, but always let things be. She stood her ground for a while and then she crumbled like a house of cards.

Definitely not what I expected after Bound by Honor
