Title: Incinerate (Explosive #2)
You know what they say about expectations? Yeah. You should not have them.
Having read Branson's story (Conflagration) as the firts one, not only have I spoilered myself but is also set high expectations on Incinerate.
I already knew how the background story really happened (Knox's highschool sweetheart Magan cheated on him with his brother Branson [SPOILER: B. was jelaous of Knox and Megan told him that they were broken up, when you sum it up it's a disaster waiting to happen.] and he joined the army), but I didn't know how Knox saw it.
I have to say that the first half of the book I was dissapointed and annoyed, because he was acting so hurt and he didn't know what really happened that day and just went and left, didn't let anyone explain and ignored everyone for ten years and then he was hurt than no one showed up when he was in hospital after bomb blown up in his face.
This is were Charlie comes in. She's a volunteer and he was asigned to her. She helps him around his flat and drives him, because he got brokem arm and something else broken in his lower back. Slowly their realitionship progresses (it is reeeeeealy slow progress - not in a real time but while reading it was getting a bit boring), mostly because of Knox - he's got the "hot 'n cold" personality and he doesn't believe in love. Your typical bachelor bad boy.
The second half of the book was faster with more events happening. They didn't seem rushed, which was great and we actually saw some action. Things happen, Megan shows up, Knox shows up at a family gathering with Charlie, Knox makes up with his family, etcetc. Most of the storyline happens in last fifty pages.
Of course there is a misunderstanding and the couple seperates for a while. [SPOILER: Knox sings her a song and HEA.]
We could see big personality growth in Knox - he overcame his insecurities and we saw his really sweet side.
I did not see any big difference in Charlie, but in the end she was more patient with Knox.
If I read Branson's story after this one I might have given it 4 stars and this wouldn't have been such a dissapointing read BUT if I take it as a stand alone I quite enjoyed reading it. I won't grab it and reread it anytime soon, if ever, but I spent several pleasant hours reading it (after I got through the first half).
*And as not native speaker.. What kind of book names are those?
