Review: Kaleidoscope Hearts (Hearts, #1) by Claire Contreras

4 stars! ****

Author: Claire Contreras

Title: Kaleidoscope Hearts (Hearts, #1)

He was my older brother's best friend.
He was never supposed to be mine.
I thought we would get it out of our system and move on.

One of us did.
One of us left.

Now he’s back, looking at me like he wants to devour me. And all those feelings I’d turned into anger are brewing into something else, something that terrifies me.
He broke my heart last time.
This time he'll obliterate it.

This one was a really pleasant read. Although there was a lot of going back and forth it was not extremely annoying, only a little.

Elle is an artist with a broken heart. But her heart wasn't broken by a man's words or actions. She was broken by his death. Her finacé died suddenly and while she was lost without him, her family and friends supported her and nursed her back to life.

He wasn't her first love. Her first love was her big brother's best friend. Oliver was there for her when she needed him when she was young. When she couldn't dance anymore, he was there. When she felt alone, he was there. He was there with stories about princesses and kings and lovestories.

They were in a "relationship". They made out and once they even hooked up, but he disappeared the next day. They didn't see each other for a long time. She lost hope in him and lived her life not waiting for him. She got engaged and she lost that man.

Oliver is now back and he's ready to win her back and to become a permament fixure in her life. Although he feels guilty over betraying her brother, he's not able to let Elle go.

I missed a bit more of the "moral" drama. Yeah, Oliver felt a bit of guilt but didn't really do anything about it. Yeah, Elle felt guilty about moving on for about a paragraph and than it was all okay with a bit of pain and tears.

I've already read other books by Claire Contreras and I liked those them so I had high hopes about this one. And I wasn't dissapointed. Sometimes it felt a bit slower but it didn't really disturb me. I was a bit bored sometimes with the repeating and going back and forth but over all it was a pleasurable read.

It didn't blew my mind but it was still better than most. It pleasurable read and altough it won't belong on my "fav" shelf I enjoyed it.

The ending was charming. That's what raised it to four starts instead of three.
